Monitors have undergone a revolution over the past few years. But we think the most interesting, recent trend is to do with aspect ratios. These UltraWide displays afford greater production capabilities by effectively serving the role of two side-by-side displays, just with no bezel; they also offer greater desk compatibility, more easily centered atop smaller real-estate.

Increased pixel throughput more heavily saturates the pipeline, of course, which means that standard p and p benchmarks won't reflect the true video card requirements of a x UltraWide display. This isn't a resolution we test, but it does offer a middle-ground of affordability for folks who really can't run two side-by-side, higher resolution displays. Production users are most obviously benefited by such a display.

We've included a few screenshots throughout this benchmark that provide a better understanding of how an UW display impacts the gaming experience. Some games are not supported on UltraWide resolutions. Older titles and indie titles are the two most common detractors — understandably, given 1 old or 2 smaller teams which may overlook the resolutions — but competitive games can sometimes intentionally forbid UltraWide resolutions.

Dirty Bomb is a good example of a game that didn't seem to support x when we tested its beta. Shadow of Mordor has an odd, slight stretch that adds some weight to Talion. So it's not perfect — but a lot of games do work well with UltraWides. Racing games and flight games, like DiRT and Star Citizen, offer greater peripheral vision that is both immersive and mechanically advantageous; shooters like Black Ops III and Battlefront where FOV is user-controlled reveal more of the player's flanks without the introduction of a bezel, as experienced with multi-monitor setups.

There are few technologies that really impress us, and as simple as it seems, just growing the display to is one of those experience-improving changes. We tested using our multi-GPU test bench. Our thanks to supporting hardware vendors for supplying some of the test components. The latest AMD drivers NVidia's Game settings were manually controlled for the DUT. All games were run at presets defined in their respective charts. All other game settings are defined in respective game benchmarkswhich we publish separately from GPU reviews.

This allows others to replicate our results by studying our bench courses.If you want the ultimate in desktop screen space, you have two options: Get a bigger monitor, or get a 4K monitor. Both options offer you more space to spread out and work, and more pixels to cram your windows into, but two are the focus of many monitor-buyers today: Ultrawide and 4K.

This showdown is a bit of an odd one, because the answer already depends on the way you work and what you need from a display. We ran into a similar conundrum when we compared ultrawide displays with dual displays for productivity. Part of the allure of ultrawide displays is the physical size of them, and the fact that many give you the same or more space to play with as two displays side-by-side on your desk.

You also get the benefit of a wide, single peripheral that simplifies your desk setup. Despite their size, that also means there are a lot of pixels crammed into that footprint—so many that it may be disorienting. That brings us to the drawback to 4K displays this size: All that screen real estate is great, but on smaller panels, if you wind up scaling all of your apps up just to read them, it may be a waste.

The key is to find a happy medium that gives you space and usability. So in that vein, how good is your eyesight? In my case, that was a 27" panel, which actually sat smaller on my desk than the 34" ultrawide I was using up to that point. The end result was this feeling that I could keep everything open on my desktop at the same time without overlapping windows or having to minimize or hide anything, which was great.

Of course, some minor scaling tweaks got me to a place where I could work. You just may need to adjust your text a bit, sit a little closer to your screen, or invest in a larger 4K panel to get the benefits without the scaling tradeoffs. There are ultrawide and 4K displays at all price points, but you should expect to spend more than you would on a good budget p or p monitor.

Ultrawide panels are often considered luxury items with bells and whistles like USB hubs and tons of inputs, while 4K displays run the gamut from simple, single-input monitors to high-end versions with those same hubs and options. However, take into account how you work, the optimal screen size for you, and whether you need features in a display like Thunderbolt support, multiple inputs, USB ports or device charging, SD card readers, and so on.

That may change the picture significantly. So productivity is all well and good, but what about PC gaming? Well, the good news is that if you can handle p or p gaming on your current PC, you can probably handle gaming on an ultrawide without having to buy a new graphics card or upgrade your entire rig.

Of course, there are caveats. You can check the widescreen gaming forum to see if yours do. This is called pillarboxingand while some people get used to it, it can drive others mad. On another, a slightly slower but same gen i7 and an older Radeon can play Overwatch atbut not without significant tearing and low framerates.

Switch to and the tearing vanishes, and framerates pick up. That said, those systems are older, and if you have a modern PC, you should be okay with widescreen gaming without having to build a new rig for good performance. Building a new computer may be required unless you have recent components. My test machines handled general productivity just fine in 4K. No way. When I was able to test the 27" 4K display in a 4K games, it was glorious, make no mistake, but it took horsepower to get there.

If you want a simpler, streamlined version of having more than one display on your desk, ultrawide displays are for you. While finding media in is probably harder than finding it in 4K, finding games that support that aspect ratio or can be tweaked to support it is definitely easier. An affordable 4K display for work, where I can use every pixel I can get.

Which you choose however, should depend on what you do primarily with your PC, and what your budget for a monitor upgrade looks like. The A.We purchase our own monitors and put them under the same test bench, so that you can compare the results easily.

There's very little blur trail with clear motion. The backlight is flicker-free, but it has a black frame insertion option to deal with motion blur. In addition, the LG supports FreeSync variable refresh rate technology.

The black uniformity is poor, so this isn't a good monitor to game with in dark rooms. It isn't quite as good as the LG, as it has a slower refresh rate and no optional black frame insertion feature, but it's still a great gaming monitor that should please most gamers. See our review.

The input lag is extremely low, so gamers will be able to see their actions onscreen almost as quickly as they press their controllers. It also has outstanding response time and the motion blur is minimal.

There's no image flicker on this super ultrawide gaming monitor, which could give you less eye strain, but it doesn't have black frame insertion either to reduce motion blur. It would be a good monitor to game with at night if the black uniformity and local dimming weren't bad. Unfortunately, the monitor has bad viewing angles, so co-op gaming might not look so good with it. However, it has good reflection handling, and there shouldn't be any issues with it in a bright room.

The x resolution, combined with low input lag and great response time, makes this a good super ultrawide gaming monitor. Unfortunately, this monitor doesn't look as good in a dark room, and it can't get very bright, which may be an issue if you have a lot of natural light.

Overall, though, it's a great ultrawide gaming monitor that should please most people. The refresh rate isn't as high, the black uniformity is bad, and the input lag is a little higher on the smaller LG.

Superclocked Member. Hey guys! This is probably an old shoe, but after lots of weeks of researching I'am still not sure which monitor I should get.

The monitor should help to utilice the GPU power. My specs: i7 k 4. UHD sounds good, but 60Hz?

More then 60Hz is already on it's way, but way to expensive and a single GPU can handle barely 60fps in modern games. Now to 34". I haved heard, that some games don't support right out of the box and you need to use programms to fix it or change some files. Cutscenes are often in too and sometimes they just get stretched.

Hi guys! I mainly play cs:go and overwatch, but both on my old 27" tn 60hz p monitor at x using amd vsrso I get an image like with multisamping, but without mouse-inputlaggs!

I would like to buy a monitor. The x monitors got usually max. It's 35", hz, ips, but only x I googled a lot, but i did not find much. All I know is, that AMD does not support Virtual Super Resolution but I am going to buy surely an RXand freesync monitors are much more cheaper, and this aoc got freesync too.

For Nvidia I did not find a list for this support. So I have some questions now, maybe someone can help me. How can I get x on the x monitor with an AMD card? I found only "Gedosato" as a solution.
